In 2017, DKT joined Every Woman Every Child to advance the Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s, and Adolescents’ Health between 2016 and 2030. Between 2017-2020, DKT committed to:
- launching affordable contraceptives in 10 more FP2020 countries in 2017 and 2018;
- generating 10 million incremental CYPs by 2020;
- spending $75 million per year of our own sales revenues to procure commodities and investing $5 million per year into FP2020 countries for a total contribution of $320 million.
Emerging from the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals Summit in September 2010, Every Woman Every Child mobilizes businesses, governments, philanthropists, research and academic institutions, non-governmental organizations, and multilateral organizations to address issues that women, adolescents, and children face. From climate change to female genital mutilation, the Every Woman Every Child initiative urges stakeholders to develop programming and invest financial resources to combat critical health challenges.
DKT supports the Every Woman Every Child initiative by increasing access to contraception in new geographies, encouraging family planning uptake among new users, and investing financial resources into FP2020 priority countries. In 2019, DKT launched contraceptive sales in Palestine, Somaliland, and Niger. Globally, DKT’s social marketing programs generated over 46.3 million CYPs, up from 43 million in 2018. DKT also reinvested an estimated $165 million from sales revenues and an additional $8 million in discretionary funds to improve contraceptive social marketing, service delivery, training, and other key programming activities around the world. Altogether, DKT’s efforts to support access to family planning worldwide helped avert over 7.8 million unintended pregnancies, 35,000 maternal deaths, 56,000 child deaths, and 10 million unsafe abortions.
As of December 2019, DKT has exceeded our commitment goals. DKT will continue supporting the Every Woman Every Child initiative to ensure women have access to the products, services, and resources they need to live happier, healthier lives.
